HOUSTON — The Houston Association of Black Journalists (HABJ) was recognized by Unity National Bank of Houston as its August 2026 Black Business Spotlight honoree in celebration of National Black Business Month.
Founded in 1986, HABJ is one of Houston’s largest organizations representing journalists of color. An affiliate of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the chapter advocates for diversity in newsrooms, supports professional development and provides scholarships to aspiring journalists.
The recognition carries special significance coming from Unity National Bank, Texas’ only majority Black-owned bank. Established in 1963, the historic institution has spent more than six decades promoting economic empowerment and expanding financial opportunities in underserved communities.
The honor comes as HABJ prepares to serve as the host chapter for the 2027 NABJ Convention & Career Fair, scheduled for August 4–8 in Houston.
HABJ extends its sincere appreciation to Unity National Bank for the recognition and for its longstanding commitment to uplifting Houston’s Black community.
